Dr. Carreon is a West Texas native pursuing his childhood dream.
Dr. Carreon was raised in the rural community of Rotan, Texas, in Fisher County. He was blessed to have parents that valued education and hard work. His journey to become a physician was shaped by cotton fields, family, church, and a wonderfully supportive community.
Dr. Carreon attended Texas Tech University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Spanish in 1999. He then attended medical school at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He maintained his academic successes and was admitted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society prior to graduating with his M.D. in 2003. Dr. Carreon then completed his residency in family medicine at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, in 2006.
In 2006, Dr. Carreon returned to his hometown to begin his medical career. He was privileged to work with his beloved mentor Dr. C.M. Callan, M.D., for 5 years. At Fisher County Hospital, he garnered knowledge and valuable experience. In the fall of 2011, Dr. Carreon moved his family to Shallowater and continues to practice in this wonderful community. He is proud to serve Shallowater, Lubbock, and the surrounding communities of Littlefield, Anton, New Deal, Abernathy, Sudan, and Levelland.
Dr. Carreon and his wife Stephanie are both natives of Rotan and are proud to call Shallowater home. They have been blessed with three daughters that are enrolled in the exemplary Shallowater Independent School District. Dr. Carreon enjoys traveling, all things Texas Tech, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Carreon has a simple belief: better relationships = better healthcare. He is committed to empowering his patients to improve their health.
As a local Shallowater resident, Cara has a deep love for this community and its well-being.
Cara began her education in healthcare in 2009, attending Covenant School of Nursing and furthering her studies at Lubbock Christian University in 2012, obtaining her Registered Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degrees. With a strong work ethic instilled in her by her parents, Cara worked her way through school, ultimately earning a Master of Science in Nursing and a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner designation in 2015.
Over her 11 years in health care, Cara has developed a diverse skillset. She has experience in intensive care, gastroenterology, family medicine, and urgent care. Her extensive clinical expertise, coupled with her warm demeanor and compassion for patients, allows Cara to provide care that is well-rounded and patient-centered.
Cara and her husband Lance are both from the small town of Spearman, Texas and moved to Shallowater in 2013. Just like their own upbringing, Cara and Lance look forward to raising their three children in this family-oriented community, and feel fortunate to have them enrolled in Shallowater schools. When Cara is not spending time with her family, she also enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, and participating in any activities that have to do with health and fitness.
Cara is committed to providing patient-centered care, and she will do her part in transforming the health care experience for her patients. By working with each patient individually to improve their quality of life, and to meet their specific health goals, Cara hopes to provide her patients with the best possible care.
Mackenzi Eberly is an energetic, small-town girl with compassion for rural medicine. Growing up in Bowie, Texas (located in Montague County), Mackenzi was raised by supportive, loving parents and was influenced by compassionate teachers and involved coaches. Her parents always told her that “size or gender does not matter; set your goals and go for them”; advice Mackenzi took to heart when she decided to pursue a career in medicine.
Mackenzi Eberly attended Tarleton State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2008. After working nine years in Emergency Medicine, she attended Walden University Family Nurse Practitioner School, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2015. She returned to rural medicine and joined Faith Community Rural Health Clinic in Jacksboro, Texas. During that time, Mackenzi felt fortunate to work with some of the most caring family medicine and OB certified physicians in the area. It was here where she received exposure to pediatrics and made her decision to further her expertise by receiving a post-certification in pediatrics from the University of Texas in Arlington in 2020.
Also in 2020, Mackenzi’s husband Jarrod was offered the opportunity to transfer to Lubbock. Both Mackenzi and her husband were eager to return to their small-town roots, and after visiting Shallowater, they knew that they had found their home in this close-knit, welcoming community. The Eberly family looks forward to being an active part of this town, and Mackenzi feels blessed to be able to raise her children in a similar environment as her hometown.
Mackenzi is thrilled for the opportunity to work with Dr. Carreon and Cara Baker, FNP-C, at the Shallowater Clinic. Working in this role is an answer to Mackenzi’s prayers: to be a part of a rural community like Shallowater, doing and what she loves, and connecting with her patients and their families. Mackenzi and Jarrod are loving life in Shallowater, and are happy to call this community “home”. They have three active boys: McKray, Brig, and Kord. When Mackenzi is not enjoying time with her family, she loves spending time outdoors and participates in 10K runs. In the near future, she plans to accomplish her personal goal of running a half-marathon. Mackenzi believes in the importance of the simple, but important principles of listening to her patients, which in turn, allows her to provide personalized care that is tailored to fit her patients’ specific needs.
